Concerns about voter fraud took center stage following revelations from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), which uncovered 2,800 cases of double voter registration during its latest stakeholder forum.

Speaking on Thursday night’s edition of the Viewpoint program, Baboucarr Mboge, who attended the IEC Monthly Stakeholder Forum held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre in Bijilo, shared details of what transpired at the meeting.

Mboge explained that representatives from all political parties and alliances were present, paying particular attention to Seedy SK Njie, who has been accused of involvement in multiple voter registration irregularities across several centers.

“Seedy Njie’s name keeps coming up in connection with various registration centers. People have even given him a nickname, ‘Bena Nyebeh Si Chin.’ In one instance, an NPP-affiliated woman was caught with fake Gambian birth certificates and reported to the police. Surprisingly, instead of being detained, she is now serving as a polling agent at the same center in Tanji where the incident occurred,” he said.

AG Radio Panelists including Gibril Fadia, Dodou Ndow, Ebrahim Nyass (Agi Macca), and Bakary Bah also weighed in, expressing serious concern over the allegations and strongly condemning what they described as fraudulent activities linked to the supplementary voter registration process.

Despite these issues, Mboge noted that the IEC’s handling of the situation showed a level of professionalism. He highlighted that both Deputy Chairman Cherno Jallow and Chairman Joseph Colley confirmed the discovery of 2,800 cases of duplicate voter registrations.

“Chairman Colley described the findings as a serious violation of The Gambia’s electoral laws and warned that the matter should not be taken lightly,” he concluded.
