The leader of the opposition People’s Alliance Party (PAP), Ebrima Tabora Manneh, has questioned President Adama Barrow’s leadership, saying it has caused a great deal of pain for Gambians.
Speaking at a news conference on Saturday, Manneh asserted that the government had “woefully failed” to manage economic resources, leading to significant unemployment and subpar public services. He claimed that because of poor governance, many residents are suffering from poverty and malnutrition as a result of the terrible economic conditions of the present.
According to Manneh, Barrow and his close friends have “hijacked” the nation for their own gain.
He claimed that the Gambia is suffering as a result of some people choosing to put their own interests ahead of the country’s.
Incompetence, misaligned priorities, widespread corruption, and poor resource management are all present, Manneh continued.
According to him, the country’s high cost of living, foreign economic dominance, inadequate healthcare, education, and agricultural practices, as well as a high unemployment rate, continue to push the country’s young people to travel across the sea on the “Backway.”
“The current state of affairs in The Gambia calls for swift and decisive action. He compared the Gambia to a sinking boat in need of rescue.
He also questioned the government’s subpar agricultural policies.
The economy
According to Manneh, if significant action is not taken to address the current state of affairs, the government will eventually declare bankruptcy because it is now operating with empty coffers.
“In 2026, the Gambians should wake up and take the necessary action,” he stated.
He promised that a PAP government would combat corruption and bring the nation’s economy back to a stable level.
