GAMBIA: 62 Suspected Irregular Migrants Intercepted at Mandinaba Checkpoint

Security officers stationed at the Mandinaba Checkpoint late Saturday night intercepted sixty-two (62) individuals suspected of engaging in irregular migration, authorities have confirmed.

The operation, which took place at approximately 23:00 hours, forms part of an ongoing nationwide effort aimed at curbing irregular migration and enhancing border security. The individuals were discovered traveling in three commercial vehicles during routine checks.

According to officials, the group comprised foreign nationals from Mali, Côte d’Ivoire, and Senegal, along with a small number of Gambians. Among those intercepted were women and at least one minor.

All individuals have since been handed over to the Gambia Immigration Department, where they are undergoing screening and further processing to determine their status and the appropriate course of action.

Authorities have urged members of the public to remain alert and proactive in supporting national security efforts. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or by calling 9968885.

The Gambia Police Force reiterated its commitment to combating irregular migration, emphasizing its ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and protect communities across the country.
