Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda promised that the United Democratic Party (UDP) will bring justice to Gambians if it secures victory in the 2026 elections.
Addressing an audience at the UDP Seattle Diaspora Convention in the United States, Mayor Bensouda expressed concern over the absence of justice in The Gambia, especially for those affected by former President Yahya Jammeh’s regime.
Justice is a fundamental principle of UDP, and it will be achieved in 2026, Bensouda promised the audience.
He articulated the deteriorating economic situation in the country, stating, “People are becoming increasingly impoverished each day in the Gambia.” He observed the elevated cost of living, highlighting the increasing prices of cement and bread, as well as the depreciation of the Dalasi, as illustrations of the economic difficulties encountered by everyday citizens.
It is becoming increasingly challenging for Gambians to navigate their daily lives, he stated.
Bensouda emphasized the important role of the diaspora, noting that they contribute approximately $800 million each year to the Gambian economy. Nonetheless, he expressed discontent with the government’s lack of recognition for their contributions.
However, the United Democratic Party expresses its gratitude and appreciation to our diaspora, he added.
