Today, Scorpions coach Jonathan McKinstry announced a formidable 24-man Scorpions squad for Morocco 2025, this month’s TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Match Day 5 of the tournament will be held in Berkane, Morocco, where the Gambia will host Comoros on November 15. On November 18, they will travel to Tunisia to play the hosts, Tunisia. With five points from four games, Johnny’s charges are currently ranked third on the four-team table. While they still control their own fate, they could need to earn all six points in order to qualify for the AFCON for the third time in a row. However, depending on how the other Group A games turn out, a victory over Comoros and a point in the decisive game against Tunisia would still be sufficient.
Baboucarr Njie of Oakland County, the United States; Abubakar Barry of Rapid Vienna; and Alassana Jatta of Notts County, England, all received debut callups from the Northern Irishman. Yankuba Minteh will also be able to represent The Gambia in the aforementioned matches, while Joseph Ceesay, who will miss Match Day 5 due to card accumulation, is also included. Given that Gambia will need his speed and cunning in the qualifications, the Brighton & Hove Albion star’s return to full condition is a good boost for the Scorpions. The constant presence of Musa Barrow, who is now playing at his best in front of goal for his Saudi pro league team Al Taawoun, also helps the attacking line.
Following his injury recovery, Abdoulie “Bambalie” Sanyang rejoined the team, and Mahmudu Bajo kept his spot. Suleiman Camara, a regular for Racing de Santander in the Spanish second division, also made a strong impact in his first match against Madagascar. Abdoulie Ceesay and Ali Sowe are the other two strikers in the squad’s three attackers.
