A Boy has been charged with four counts, including attempted murder, after he allegedly drove off with a police sergeant lying on the bonnet of his vehicle following a refusal to produce his vehicle documents, transporting the officer from Hagan Street, Banjul, all the way to Manjai.

Abdul Wahabu Jobarteh appeared before the court on charges of Attempted Murder, Reckless and Negligent Acts, Disobedience of Lawful Orders, and Common Assault arising from an incident on 5th June, 2026.

The prosecution alleges that on that date, at Hagan Street, Banjul, Jobarteh drove vehicle registration number BJL 6726 J at excessive speed while Sergeant 4485 Alagie Badjie of the Gambia Police Force lay on its bonnet, allegedly placing the officer’s life in direct danger.

The first count charges Jobarteh with Attempted Murder, contrary to Section 168 of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025. The second count of Reckless and Negligent Acts, contrary to Section 109(a) of the same Act, alleges he drove the vehicle in a manner likely to endanger human life.

On the third count of Disobedience of Lawful Orders, the prosecution alleges that Abdul Wahab Jobarteh willfully and unlawfully refused to hand over his vehicle particulars to Sergeant Badjie upon demand, the refusal that allegedly triggered the confrontation.

The fourth and final count of Common Assault, contrary to Section 195 of the Act, alleges that Jobarteh assaulted the officer by clipping his hands on the vehicle’s door screen.
