Gach Global Trading Company CEO Abubacar Jawara spoke on the witness stand yesterday, recounting what he called a “painful betrayal” by people he had once trusted.
In a D58 million lawsuit against Gam-Petroleum CEO Saikou Drammeh and his former assistant Kadijatou Kebbeh, Abubacarr Jawara testified as a plaintiff.
He described the sequence of events that resulted in the disagreement and subsequent legal action, and he described how Ms. Kebbeh and Mr. Drammeh allegedly betrayed his trust and weakened the basis of a relationship based on mutual trust.
According to Mr. Jawara, he was called as a witness rather than as a complainant in Saikou Drammeh’s criminal trial.
He claimed that Saikou Drammeh connected him with Senegalese suppliers and that he had a fuel supply contract with GNPC.
He then claimed to have contacted Kuringo and the Senegalese suppliers and to have sent them a million euros.
Mr. Jawara told the court that after giving Saikou US$221,000 through his agent Kadijatou, he became evasive and stopped returning his calls.
Mr. Jawara claimed that he knew Saikou had betrayed him when he saw a video of him showing off and counting dollars. He went to the Kairaba Police Station, filed a complaint, and made a statement. The two were then called to the Banjul police headquarters to have the matter looked into.
When Jawara met with attorney Badou Conteh, Hamidou Jah of Jah Oil Company Limited, he was informed that “the problem was a family matter” and encouraged them to “resolve it in a family way.” Jawara cited this incident.
Mr. Jawara informed the court that he does not trust either Mr. Drammeh or Ms. Kebbeh because she deceived him and fled to Nigeria with his money.
