The Gambia Police Force has dismissed three police constables with immediate effect following the conclusion of separate internal disciplinary proceedings.
The officers were identified as Police Constable Alieu G. Camara, Police Constable Buba Touray and Police Constable Ismaila Bah.
In a statement, the police said the disciplinary action followed separate incidents of misconduct involving the three officers.
The cases included a widely circulated video showing Constable Camara allegedly behaving in a manner considered unbecoming of a police officer during an encounter with a shopkeeper.
According to the statement, the three officers were formally charged in accordance with the disciplinary procedures of the Gambia Police Force and appeared before separate Orderly Room hearings.
The police said each officer pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him, resulting in their immediate dismissal from the Force.
The Gambia Police Force said the decision demonstrated its commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism, discipline and accountability among its personnel.
“These dismissals underscore the Force’s zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct and reaffirm its unwavering commitment to preserving public confidence in policing,” the statement said.
The police assured the public that officers who violate the laws, regulations or ethical standards governing the institution would be held accountable through established disciplinary procedures.
The Force said it would continue taking action against personnel whose conduct undermines the integrity of the police service or damages public confidence in law enforcement.
The dismissals come amid growing public calls for greater accountability and professionalism within the security services, particularly in cases involving alleged misconduct towards civilians.
