A peaceful and stationary protest has been announced for Thursday, 27 August 2026, at Denton Bridge in Banjul to draw attention to concerns surrounding the operations of Sino Magilac Sand Mining and Dredging Company.
The protest, scheduled to take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., is intended to highlight what organisers describe as urgent and unresolved environmental and community issues affecting residents of Banjul. The demonstration will last no more than two hours and is being presented as a lawful, respectful and symbolic act of civic expression.
According to the announcement, several attempts have been made to resolve the concerns amicably, but residents believe the issues remain unaddressed. The protest seeks to demand attention from the relevant authorities and encourage dialogue aimed at finding a lasting solution.
The organiser has emphasised that the action will remain peaceful and stationary and will not involve the mobilisation or organisation of a public gathering. However, individual citizens may choose to attend voluntarily in solidarity. Members of the media have also been invited to observe and report on the event.
The campaign is being held under the message, “Our Environment, Our Future, Our Voice,” with a call for a cleaner environment, a safer community and a better Banjul.
The organisers say the action is not intended to create confrontation but to promote dialogue, respect and responsible environmental management. They are urging authorities and the company involved to take the concerns of residents seriously and work toward an acceptable and sustainable resolution.
