In an attempt to fortify diplomatic relations and restate common objectives, Hon. Sering Modou Njie, the recently appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad, held a breakfast meeting with representatives of the diplomatic and consular corps in The Gambia.

Representatives from a number of foreign organizations were also in attendance.

Minister Njie stressed his dedication to regional integration, multilateral collaboration, economic diplomacy, peace and security, and the protection of Gambians residing overseas in his first formal meeting with the diplomatic community since taking office.

“I am honored to assume this important role at a critical time in our nation’s journey. My Ministry stands ready to deepen our partnerships and work closely with your missions to advance mutual goals,” he said.

The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Lang Yabou, emphasized the value of long-term international collaborations and reaffirmed the government’s willingness to engage in vigorous diplomatic activities.

Yabou acknowledged the diplomatic and consular corps’ achievements and said that, especially in a region with urgent issues that call for cooperation, The Gambia is a ray of hope for democracy consolidation, the rule of law, human rights, and peacebuilding.

To help us achieve our shared goals of a peaceful, prosperous, and just society, Yabou said, “we are confident that the international community’s partnership and solidarity will be further sustained and expanded as we navigate the path toward increased national transformation, democratic consolidation, and sustainable development.”

He also reaffirmed the ministry’s dedication to polite, principled, and successful international collaboration under Minister Njie’s direction.

Minister of Justice Dawda A. Jallow also spoke to the audience, giving updates on the current constitutional reform process, with a focus on the 2024 Draft Constitution.

In the meantime, participants received a briefing on important government programs and national priorities from Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, Minister of Information, Media, and Broadcasting.

An engaging Q&A session that provided a forum for candid discussion and introspection marked the end of the meeting.
