
An American-Gambian dual citizen was arrested at Banjul International Airport after being discovered in possession of multiple illegal narcotics, according to the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG).
DLEAG reports that the suspect was captured in the airport’s arrival hall on January 29, 2025, at around 08:17 GMT. In his hands, authorities found ten (10) jars of cannabis oil, one gramme of 536 mg cocaine, twenty (20) packages of skunk cannabis, and six (6) packets of skunk chewing gum.
The American national is a dual citizen of the United States of America and the Gambia. On January 29, 2025, at around 08:17 GMT, he was taken into custody in the arrival hall of Banjul International Airport with twenty (20) packages of skunk cannabis, six (6) packets of skunk chewing gum, ten (10) jars of cannabis oil, and one gramme of 536 mg cocaine, according to DLEAG.
Thirty-six (36) people were detained in relation to thirty-four (34) drug-related charges, according to a statement posted on DLEAG’s Facebook page. Of them, one (1) was a woman and thirty-five (35) were men. Officers from The Gambia Prison Services (GPS) apprehended the female suspect, a Gambian national, after discovering three (3) pieces of cannabis resin, ten (10) ecstasy tablets, and an unknown amount of kush.
There is only one (1) female arrestee and thirty-five (35) male arrestees. Three (3) pieces of cannabis resin, ten (10) ecstasy tablets, and various amounts of kush were found on the female arrestee, a Gambian national, by officers of The Gambia Prison Services (GPS) in New Jeshwang, according to the statement.
Thirty-one (31) Gambians, three (3) Senegalese, one (1) Nigerian, and one (1) American were among the nationalities of the people who were arrested, according to the report.
DLEAG further revealed that the Nigerian suspect was found in possession of thirty-three (33) wraps of kush at Tipa Garage in Kanifing Municipality. A Senegalese suspect was discovered in possession of 150 ecstasy tablets at the Jenoi checkpoint in the Lower River Region, while two Senegalese nationals were detained in Barra, North Bank Region, with 15 (15) bundles of cannabis sativa.
