    GAMBIA: We Must Eradicate Evil from Gambian Politics and Society or Risk being Consumed by it

    In an interview with AG Radio on Saturday evening, Mr. Edrissa Jallow condemns the politics of Sagga, the politics of Hasteh, and the politics of Fenn within Gambian politics. Mr. Jallow emphasised that it is now crucial for Gambians to demonstrate political maturity; in this regard, we must be aware of who should lead us and who to elect to public office.

    Certain politicians manipulate Sagga and Fenn as tools for their own agendas, aiming to mislead us and incite division among us. When certain politicians exhaust their ideas and knowledge, seeking to divert public attention from their political shortcomings, they often shift the blame onto the Mandinkas, the Wollofs, or other tribes or political leaders. This situation arises from their reluctance to recognise their failures.

    However, the challenges we face extend beyond just our politicians; the fabric of Gambian society is increasingly becoming more toxic. This does not reflect the practices of our forefathers, nor does it align with the principles upon which this nation was founded by our founding fathers. We must rise against the evil in our society, the malicious intent in our politics, or else that same evil will lead to our collective downfall. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once stated, “The greatest tragedy is not the evil man’s brutality, but the quietness of the good man”. In the words of  Mildred Pepper “The mistake a lot of politicians make is forgetting they have been appointed, and thinking they have been anointed”.
