Many Banjulians refer to him as Lams, though his actual name is Lamin Gaye. In this interview with AG Radio, he shares insights about life in Aff-Die before the arrival of Banjulians in the Kombos and other regions of Gambia. Lams possesses extensive local knowledge and takes pride in being a native of Aff-Die. He knows the history of AFF-Die, the names of the streets, and the former residents of each complex. Maurel & Prom, Maurel Fresh, the Ports, CFAO, Wharfi Njango, Kings Way, PWD, and Pa machine are names of locations that may be unfamiliar to the younger generation, yet they resonate with the older generation of Banjulians.

In this program, Lams mentions the names of people who many of us today have long forgotten. Names like Fatah Betts, Mam Badara Cham, Pa Ismaila Cham, and Pa Sulay Sowe. Cham Derri Baye, Pa Njimba Cham, Pa Ablie Louis, Darra Hassi, Darra serigne Gaye, Darra Pakka, and Darra Pa Drammeh were among the only Darras (Quranic schools) and Oustass (Quranic teachers) in Aff-Die. Great Islamic scholars and Imams including Tafseer Maba Jahu Bah, Sait Matty Bah, Imam Wakka, and Imam Modou Lamin Bah are also mentioned by Lams.

Lams still has pleasant memories of Amatta, Larinyeh, Haah-Tu, and Nya Bukajay, among other fascinating individuals. Lams states with pride that he was born, raised, educated, married, reared his children, worked, retired, and continues to live in Aff-Die. Lams is a proud native of Aff-Die and of Banjul.
