Currently on trial for the alleged murder of two Police Intervention Unit officers is Ousainou Bojang, a native of Brufut Bojang Kunda. Later, in Jululung, Casamance, in the southern region of Senegal, he was taken into custody. Since then, Ousainou Bojang has insisted on his innocence and refuted the accusations.
In this interview with AG Radio on Saturday, Mr. Kebba Jammeh claimed to have had trustworthy information from those who were closely associated with the investigations as well as from truthful people close to Ousainou Bojang. Mr. Kebba Jammeh stated, “I have had conversations with every individual who was present with Ousainou at the time of the purported murder.”
After gathering all of these proofs, I came to the conclusion that the State is aware of the perpetrator of this crime, Abdoulie Sanyang, the previous IGP, is aware of the person who killed these PIU officers, and the majority of senior police officials are aware of the perpetrator. According to Mr. Kebba Jammeh, the State’s intention was to use this murder case as a pretext to demolish the United Democratic Party (UDP).
A Serious Crimes Division officer named Mr. Lamin Cham was the first to question Ousainou after his initial arrest in Jululung, Casamance, in Southern Senegal. During the interrogation, Mr. Cham threatened to harm Ousainou by saying, “We know that you were sent by UDP to commit this killings and if you do not talk you will see what will happen to you.” Mr. Lamin Cham was the first to introduce the UDP’s name in this probe, Mr. Kebba Jammeh added. Since Lamin Cham and the then-IGP Abdoulie Sanyanang were close friends and all of them are criminals, bandits, and drug dealers, it is clear that Mr. Cham obtained this information from higher authority. They both used to exploit people by taking away their cars under false pretences, and I experienced the same thing once. Lamin Cham wanted to take away my vehicle, Mr. Kebba Jammeh added.
During the Yahya Jammeh regime, this same Lamin Cham was a member of the team that looked into the murders of Ghanaian migrants in the Gambia. Among the policemen Jammeh used for his nefarious activities was Lamin Cham. According to Mr. Kebba Jammeh, President Barrow is using Lamin Cham to enable Cham to carry out some shady tasks for him within the police force. Now, he wants Ousainou to confess to a crime he did not commit in order to implicate the UDP.
Mr Kebba Jammeh claims that the murder took place at the Sukuta-Jabang traffic signals. Two days after the murder, some state intelligence services (SIS) officers went to the petrol station near the crime scene and took the CCTV footage. The CCTV footage has not yet been produced by the SIS officers to demonstrate that Ousainou is the murderer. Mr. Kebba Jammeh sain he wanted to know why the CCTV footage was being concealed and presented in court?
Mr. Kebba Jammeh claims that the police got in touch with one Malang Cham. Ousainou Bojang visited Malang Cham a Marabout at Jululung. In order to testify against Ousainou Bojang, Malang Cham was offered some money, but he turned it down. Despite being aware of Ousanou Bojang’s visit to Jululung, Malang Cham and his son were not asked to testify since they both believed Ousainou was innocent.
Fortunately, one of the PIU policemen who was fatally injured at the crime site survived. If the State is telling the truth, why wasn’t she asked to testify? In this instance, no one who could reveal what the state is concealing was ever asked to testify. However, the State was delighted to utilise Mama Jabbi, who is notorious for being a hustler, scammer, and serial liar, to testify against Ousainou Bojang. She was then given a D1 million bounty.
According to Mr. Jammeh, Mama Jabbi a native of Salagi, is a close friend of Maimuna Barrow, popularly known as Korrka, who is President Adama Barrow’s sister. Mama Jabbi did a lot of errands for Korrka and served as a liaison between Korrka and several Marabouts in Guinea Bissau and Casamance. Can the Gambians imagine President Barrow giving his sister’s best friend D1 Million? Mr. Jammeh went on to say that the President is guilty and that both he and his sister Korrka are aware of this crime.
Mr. Kebba Jammeh asserts that since the President is the most informed person in the entire country, nothing occurs in the Gambia without his awareness. The government always comes up with an excuse for the ECOMIG forces to stay in The Gambia when their mandate is about to expire. Because of this, ECOWAS extended the mandate of the ECOMIG forces a few months after the deaths of these two PIU officers, citing security concerns and stating that the Gambia was still unsafe due to the killings of police officers and a violent opposition group.
In order to convince ECOWAS to grant the ECOMIG forces an extension of their mandate, the State invoked the Ousainou Bojang case. Therefore, anyone who claims that President Adama Barrow is ignorant of this situation is misleading the Gambians. Mr. Kebba Jammeh went on to ask how the president, who is the most informed person in the country, could be unaware of this matter.
Kebba Jammeh asserts that the government-tracked records serve as independent proof. Mr. Kebba Jammeh claimed that the government utilised the Haruna Jammeh case in Kanilai, and the Gunjur-Berending land dispute as pretexts, along with the Ousainou Bojang case, to justify ECOMIG’s continued presence in The Gambia.
