The United Democratic Party (UDP) is pleased to announce that 11 distinguished members of the Party have formally submitted their applications for consideration as Flagbearer in the 2026 Presidential Elections.
The applicants are as follows:
- H. E. ANM Ousainu Darboe, Secretary General and Party Leader
- Lamin Jawara – Kaur Janneh Kunta, CRRN Executive Member
- Lamin N.S. Ceesay – Pakaliba , Sofanyama Construction, Jarra
- Borry S. Touray, Barrister, Deputy Administrative Secretary for Legal and Human Rights
- Talib Ahmed Bensouda, Campaign and Organising Committee and the Mayor of KMC
- Amadou Sanneh, National Treasurer
- Karamo Fatty – Pachar Sana, Sponsored National Assembly Candidate, Lower Fuladu
- Sulayman Saho – National Assembly Member, Central Badibu
- Dr. Lamin J. Darboe, Barrister
- Lamin Jobe – Lamin Darangka, WCR, Proprietor of AK Construction
- Dr. Muhammed Danjo – Basse Santa Su
In accordance with the UDP Constitution, the applications will now undergo a structured and transparent process. This includes:
Interviews and vetting of all applicants,
Grassroots consultations across the country to gauge support and perspectives,
An assessment of each applicant’s commitment to the UDP and their moral standing within the community.
As part of this process, the Council of Elders will also engage the applicants in dialogue, with the objective of reaching consensus on a single Flagbearer who embodies the unity, vision, and values of the UDP.
In the event consensus cannot be reached, the Constitution provides for an election. This election will be conducted by the National Executive Committee (NEC), comprising 65 members plus two representatives from each of the eight regions (16 in total).
The UDP remains committed to democracy, transparency, and unity as we take this important step in selecting our Flagbearer to lead the Party and the Gambian people into the 2026 Presidential Elections.
