His Excellency President Adama Barrow on Thursday presided over the swearing-in-ceremony of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Honourable Modou Njie, and the newly appointed Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the Independent Election Commission (IEC), Mr. Joseph Colley and Mr Cherno Jallow, respectively, followed by the Commissioner of the Reparation Commission Isatou Jammeh at the State House.
After the administration of oaths, President Barrow congratulated and reminded them of the enormous task entrusted to them including; building on best practices, avoiding and managing lapses, and improving on shortcomings for efficiency to better serve the people.
The President called on the newly sworn in Minister to guide the nation’s diplomatic policy, build friendships, and encourage investments in the development agenda. He further emphasised on the need for a more suitable electoral reforms to strengthened electoral processes and procedures to sustain democracy.
On Transitional Justice programme, the Gambian leader expressed optimism that victims of the former government will get the justice they deserve.
President Barrow commended the outgoing Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mamadou Tangara, and the Retired Chairman of the IEC, Alhajie *Alieu Momar Njie* for their invaluable contributions and prayed for their success.
Speaking on behalf of the newly sworn-in members, Honourable Modou Njie thanked the President for the confidence and trust bestowed on them. He reaffirmed their commitment, loyalty and duty to the nation.
