With effect from June 20, 2025, His Excellency President Adama Barrow has appointed Mr. Joseph Colley as the Chairperson and Mr. Cherno M. Jallow as the Deputy Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission of the Republic of The Gambia in accordance with Section 42(3) of the 1997 Constitution.
For the remainder of his term, which ends on March 3, 2028, Mr. Colley, who is presently a Commissioner, will remain the Chairperson. Mr. Cherno Jallow has been appointed for a period of seven years.
The terms of section 42(6) of the 1997 Constitution apply to both appointments.
