    GAMBIA: Police Update on Cybercrime Case and Drifting Incident Court Matter

    The Gambia Police Force wishes to update the public on two significant cases currently before the courts:

    Case 1: IGP vs. 42 Foreign Nationals (5 Chinese and 37 Nigerians)

    In furtherance of the ongoing cybercrime investigations, the suspects were arraigned at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court before Principal Magistrate Mrs. Anna O. Mendy on the following charges:

    1. Unlawful Possession of Devices and Data

    2. Computer-Related Offences: Fraud and Forgery, contrary to Sections 168 and 173 of the Information and Communications Act 2009.

    All 42 accused persons pleaded not guilty and were each granted bail in the sum of D300,000 with two Gambian sureties who must depose to an affidavit of means.

    The case has been adjourned to September 11, 2025, for continuation of proceedings.

    Case 2: IGP vs. Baboucarr Sawo (alias Daddy)

    In a separate matter, the case of IGP vs. Baboucarr Sawo, relating to the alleged drifting incident at Piccadilly which resulted in injuries to an elderly roadside vendor, came up today, September 8, 2025.

    The Court ruled on the oral bail application by his counsel, granting bail in the sum of D1.5 million with three Gambian sureties, each required to swear an affidavit of means and deposit travel documents.

    The case has been adjourned to 17th September, 2025 for continuation of hearing.

    The Gambia Police Force reaffirms commitment to pursuing all cases diligently and ensuring justice is delivered in accordance with the law.
