According to President Adama Barrow, his plans for the nation go beyond building new roads. During the opening of phase three of the Bertil Harding Highway on Saturday, the President declared that a flyover would be installed at the Sukuta Jabang intersection.
This announcement was made during the project’s first and second phases’ commissioning. Although the construction of roads marked the beginning of these development projects, my government’s vision of a contemporary integrated transportation system extends beyond highways. To ensure that The Gambia stays a competitive and connected country, we are equally dedicated to developing air and marine transportation.
Key infrastructure upgrades, including extra lanes, drainage systems, street lighting, pedestrian walkways, interchanges and junctions, landscaping and—above all—an flyover bridge at the Sukuta-Jabang intersection, will be included in this phase.
For urban mobility, the bridge’s inclusion is revolutionary. By significantly reducing traffic delays at one of the busiest intersections in the nation, this flyover will improve safety for local communities and drivers.
“I am happy to announce the contract signing to mark the official commencement of the necessary construction works as we launch Phase Three (3).”
Because it connects important economic zones, residential areas, and international gateways, the Bertil Harding Highway is one of our nation’s most important transportation corridors. These consist of the Banjul International Airport and the Tourism Development Area.
Travel within the Greater Banjul Area and its satellite communities is already considerably quicker, safer, and more effective thanks to the completion of Phases One (1) and Two (2).
In addition to enhancing travel times along the corridor, he stated, “With the launch of Phase Three (3), we will take another bold step forward towards building a modern road network to serve our people for generations to come.”
“This project has a total portfolio of about ninety-six million dollars,” he said. This demonstrates the solid collaboration between our esteemed development partners and my government.
To guarantee the project’s successful completion, my government has allocated US$33 million from our national budget. This is yet another unmistakable indication of our dedication to providing top-notch infrastructure that fosters sustained economic expansion and national advancement.
