The representative of the Janjangbureh constituency in the national assembly, Hon. Omar Jatto Jammeh, has expressed concern that the fundamental principles of the Gambia National Assembly and our democracy are being significantly eroded by certain members who are placing partisanship above the nation’s interests. During a recent interview on AG Radio, he expressed his concerns.
Given that some members of the national assembly prioritize the political interests of the ruling NPP party over those of their constituents, which impacts the nation at large, Hon. Jammeh warns Gambians to exercise great caution regarding their representatives.
Hon. Omar Jatto Jammeh expressed concerns that certain members of the national assembly affiliated with the NPP are hindering the nation’s advancement. He noted that whenever there is an intention to initiate a project aimed at benefiting a constituency, the government tends to impose obstacles that hinder the success of these initiatives, often based solely on party affiliation or opposition membership.
Despite the fact that the national assembly has some admirable members, Hon. Omar Jatto Jammeh said that some of its members show utter contempt for the people they are supposed to represent. Some members of the national assembly put collecting per diems ahead of the country’s interests. Some are there solely to ensure that bills presented to the assembly by the ruling NPP-APRC government are passed.
