According to a press release issued on Friday, the closure which took effect on the 19th June 2026 is being carried out by contractor Pinnacle Group JV Heritage Holdings as part of efforts to improve road infrastructure in the area.

The NRA said the closure is necessary to ensure the safe and efficient execution of the project, which is expected to enhance the safety, reliability and overall condition of the transport network serving communities along the route.

Motorists and other road users travelling on the Essau–Kerewan Road have been advised to use designated diversion routes throughout the construction period. Authorities stated that the affected road section will remain closed 24 hours a day until further notice.
