    GAMBIA: MoHERST Unveils Design for New UTG School of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences

    The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST) is currently holding a press briefing to unveil the architectural designs for the long-anticipated School of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences at the University of The Gambia (UTG) Faraba Banta campus.

    The new faculty, according to the Minister, is a key component of the government’s higher education transformation agenda. It is designed to accommodate a wide range of healthcare disciplines in a comprehensive and integrated academic environment.

    Once completed, the facility will cater to an estimated 6,600 students, including hundreds currently enrolled at Gambia College who will be transitioned to UTG as part of the ongoing reforms.

    The faculty will support the following student populations:

    • 1,200 Medical students (1st to 6th year)

    • 1,200 Pharmacy students (1st to 6th year)

    • 1,800 Nursing students (across both 4-year and 2.5-year programs)

    • 600 Allied Health Sciences students, including those studying Biomedical and Medical Laboratory Sciences (undergraduate, diploma, and technician levels)

    • 800 Public and Environmental Health students (1st to 4th year)

    In addition, 435 Nursing students and 443 Public Health students currently at Gambia College will be absorbed into the new faculty.
