The 2025 Appropriation Bill was adopted by the National Assembly members on Monday, authorising D37,848,776,334 in government spending for the fiscal year that starts on January 1st and ends on December 31st, 2025.
The approval came after Hon. Seedy Keita, Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, gave a budget statement on Friday. Minister Keita described the government’s plans and anticipated spending for the next year in his presentation.
Originally scheduled for debate, Monday’s session took a new turn when members decided to go straight to the Committee of Supply. The bill’s quick passage was made possible by the fact that it was evaluated at this point without any changes.
The bill states that in order to support the government’s expenditures as listed in the Act’s Schedule, the Consolidated Revenue Fund will be used to the authorised amount of D37,848,776,334.
Speaking to the Assembly, Minister Keita conveyed appreciation for the cooperation between the legislative and executive branches during the budgetary process. He underlined how crucial it is to carry out the authorised budget in its entirety in order to meet the government’s development objectives.
“I want to quickly state that the government and we appreciate the cooperation between the legislative and executive branches in passing the appropriation and streamlining the budget process. To achieve this objective, workshops, regulations, and actions have been implemented, making the process arduous,” he said.
According to the minister’s budget speech on Friday, the 2025 budget seeks to promote more inclusive and resilient growth by providing high-quality services in important areas like infrastructure, public administration modernisation, health, education, and agriculture.
He emphasised the government’s emphasis on enhancing human capital by funding health and education, assisting with efforts to reduce poverty, such as emergency relief efforts, and maintaining investments in energy and infrastructure.
He informed the National Assembly that the 2025 Budget’s theme is “Balancing Economic Growth and Reducing Vulnerabilities while Ensuring Fiscal Sustainability.”
