The Edward Francis Small Centre for Rights and Justice wishes to inform the general public that a new radio podcast on the life and legacy of Edward Francis Small will begin airing on West Coast Radio starting Thursday, 26 February 2026, and will continue weekly thereafter.
The podcast is the result of a collaborative partnership between EFSCRJ, the family of Edward Francis Small, renowned biographer Nana Grey-Johnson, and West Coast Radio.
This initiative follows the historic commemoration of the 135th birthday of Edward Francis Small and the official launch of EFSCRJ on 29 January 2026. In the spirit of that landmark event, the four parties conceived this podcast as a civic education platform dedicated to informing and enlightening the public about the life, struggle, and enduring legacy of the “Watchdog of The Gambia” and the Father of Gambian Independence.
At EFSCRJ, we made a deliberate and principled decision to name our organization after Edward Francis Small in recognition of his pioneering role in defending the rights and dignity of Gambians. His fearless advocacy, patriotism, and unwavering sense of public duty remain a moral compass for our work. His legacy is not merely historical, it is instructional.
Through this podcast, we seek not only to educate Gambians, particularly young people, about an often under-appreciated chapter of our national history, but also to inspire a renewed culture of citizenship. By revisiting the life and convictions of EF Small, we aim to encourage citizens to actively promote and protect human rights, demand accountable governance, strengthen public institutions, and work toward unity and shared prosperity.
We express profound gratitude to West Coast Radio for generously providing its platform free of charge in the public interest. We equally thank Mr. Nana Grey-Johnson for his painstaking and invaluable scholarship in authoring Edward Francis Small: Watchdog of The Gambia, thereby preserving and immortalizing a foundational figure in our national story.
We also extend sincere appreciation to the Small family for their cooperation and support in honoring and popularizing their forebear’s legacy and for contributing the voiceover services of one of their family members, Mr. Sola Mahoney
The podcast will air every Thursday between 9:00am and 9:30am, beginning 26 February 2026.
We invite all Gambians to tune in. Let us not simply listen for entertainment, but for transformation. Let this series serve as a catalyst for renewed civic consciousness and purposeful action.
As Edward Francis Small rose a century ago to defend the rights of our people, so too must we today defend constitutionalism, demand quality public services, insist on accountability, and uphold peace, equality, and justice for all.
Our Independence. Our Democracy. Our Responsibility.
2026 – Empowered Citizens. Accountable Leadership.
