At the primary referral Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul, frequent complaints over inadequate or complete water shortages have now escalated into a national crisis.
In the most recent episode, which occurred on Wednesday, escorts and patients’ families vehement complaints about the facility’s severe water shortage, which forced them to purchase water from the stores.
According to escort Ousman Touray, “sometimes it takes a whole day without water.” As you can see, there isn’t any water accessible at the moment. This is awful and indicates inadequate hygienic conditions in a medical facility.
According to Ebrima Jabbie, another bodyguard, the water situation is extremely terrible and “difficult and painful to take.”
“I came here to see my uncle on Sunday and I found that there was no water,” stated Muhammad Sillah, whose uncle is admitted to the EFSTH. When I returned on Tuesday, the issue persisted. We were always on the move with our kettles, gathering water wherever we could find it.
In response to these grievances, Dr. Mustapha Bittaye, the Chief Medical Director, stated that the most recent issue was related to Nawec and that it had impacted not only the hospital but also the majority of Banjul.
