Jinack Kajatta’s Village Development Committee (VDC) has spoken out against accusations that it is involved in migrant boat operations, calling them “completely false and unfounded.”
The committee reaffirmed its steadfast dedication to safeguarding Jinack Kajatta Village’s reputation, safety, and integrity in a statement released on December 28, 2025. The VDC vehemently denied ever getting paid when migrant boats left Jinack Island.
The statement reiterated the committee’s unambiguous opposition to illegal migration and the use of the village’s coasts as a departure point: “We have no interest in supporting or engaging in any activities that contravene the laws of The Gambia.”
The committee flatly rejected accusations that the VDC receives 100,000 dalasis from each migrant boat that leaves, emphasizing that the organization’s opposition to irregular migration has long been well-established and well-known both inside and beyond the community.
“These allegations are completely false,” the statement stressed.
Despite significant shortages of personnel and material resources, the VDC stated that it had made aggressive steps to address the issues caused by irregular migration, working closely with village elders. The committee reaffirmed its ethical duty to protect Jinack Kajatta’s reputation and welfare.
“We recognize our moral responsibility to protect the integrity, safety, and good name of Jinack Kajatta Village,” the statement said.
The VDC urged the public to ignore the accusations and reassured all parties involved of its ongoing dedication to legitimate behavior, community development, and national initiatives to fight migrant smuggling and human trafficking. It also reiterated its willingness to work closely with the appropriate authorities to make sure the village isn’t connected to any unlawful activity.
The committee emphasized the community’s limits in tackling migration-related issues in its closing statement, which called for understanding and support. The Jinack Kajatta VDC can be reached at 777 8935 or 352 2649 for more details.
