Dr. Lamin Manneh appeared on AG Radio last night. He confirmed that discussions are currently taking place among different political parties to establish a robust coalition aimed at defeating President Adama Barrow in the upcoming elections next year. However, Dr. Manneh was unable to provide further details on this matter as discussions are still in progress.
Dr. Manneh expressed optimism that an agreement will be achieved, leading to President Adama Barrow being relegated to the trash can of history. He expressed grief over the pervasive corruption within the government and the escalating cost of living alongside a rising crime rate in the country.
Recently, Seedy Njie, the deputy speaker of the National Assembly, has claimed that the UDP has militia groups throughout the country that are intimidating Gambians. Dr. Manneh firmly refuted Seedy Njie’s allegations, characterizing them not only as falsehoods but also as highly divisive, warning that such fabrications could lead to civil unrest similar to what occurred in Rwanda and other countries.
Dr. Manneh stated that the UDP executive has decided to pursue legal action against Seedy Njie to prove the truthfulness of his divisive allegations in court.
Dr. Manneh confirmed to AG Radio that the UDP executive has already held a press conference condemning Seedy Njie’s false accusations, which have also revealed the mentality of this government.
Dr. Manneh stated that the reason for calling this press conference was to clarify that this government could potentially establish militias across the country, blame it on UDP, use it as a pretext to exclude the UDP from participating in the upcoming elections in 2026.
“The government has previously taken similar actions, as seen in the incident involving the shooting of the two PIU Police Officers. The government accused the UDP, asserting that the shooter, Ousainou Bojang, was an employee of the Brikama Area Council under Chairman Yankuba Darboe a prominebt member of UDP.” Dr. Manneh stated.
“Even Ebrima Sankareh, the government spokesperson, claimed that they have evidence proving that the shooter received payment from UDP to execute these killings. The case has been ongoing for two years, and public sentiment is increasingly favouring UDP while growing doubtful of the government’s accusations.” Dr. Manneh remarked.
