GAMBIA: Is President Barrow Testing the Determination of the Populace?

    Share

President Barrow has successfully removed all obstacles from his path to become the flagbearer of his party, the NPP. This is a significant move that shows his full intention to run in the upcoming 2026 elections, aiming for a third term despite the expectations and advice from former President Buhari of Nigeria, former President Macky Sall of Senegal, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria, President Daramani Mahama of Ghana, and likely President Diomaye Faye of Senegal.

What motivates Barrow to challenge the presidential term limit, fully aware that this could lead to his own downfall? Gambians are unwilling to accept a president who holds the position solely for the purpose of extending his own power. From the outset of his presidency, it seems that President Barrow has no desire to serve just one term; rather, he aims to remain in power for as long as possible. Some people are even proposing that Barrow might generate a political impasse similar to the one caused by Yahya Jammeh in 2026. Many Gambians may not be taken aback if Barrow declines to concede defeat in the upcoming elections.

In an interview on Monday evening with AG radio, Mr. Sulayman Ben Suwareh presents an in-depth analysis of the NPP Congress in Soma, addressing its implications for Barrow, his party, his associates, and the nation as a whole. Mr. Suwareh provides an analysis of John Daramani Mahama’s recent visit to the Gambia. The Ghanaian president appears to have a significant matter to discuss with President Barrow and President Diomaye Faye.

PDOIS is presently engaged in a nationwide tour. Mr. Suwareh shares his own view on this tour, discussing its significance for the upcoming 2026 elections and its implications for the entire country.
