GAMBIA: Is Gambia a Safe Haven for Yahya Jammeh’s Death Squad?

    Share

On Tuesday April 15th 2025, the American justice syatem has found that Michael Sang Correa is a certified Jungler, a violent criminal, a torturer, a tormentor and as guilty as charged. Bai Lowe was found guilty by the German justice system, while Ousman Sonko was found guilty by the Swiss justice system.

Nonetheless, the members of Jammeh’s death squad (The Juglers) remain under the protection of President Adama Barrow’s government. Is Adama Barrow appealing to the Gambians to dismantle his government, or is he merely swayed by state capture dynamics?

While the global community is concentrating on tracking down and capturing Gambia’s most violent perpetrators and securing justice, President Adama has chosen to remain at home, providing refuge and safe haven to these individuals and further endorsing them by reinstating them within his administration.

Currently, the victims of the student massacre that occurred on April 10 and 11 have not received any reparations after 25 years. Solo Sandeng, who was tragically killed in the Gambia by Jammeh’s death squad, has not yet attained the justice that is rightfully owed to him. Despite this, President Adama Barrow is pursuing a third term in office. This is a regrettable situation that undermines the dignity of the Gambian people.

The people of the Gambia possess the primary authority to address this issue, rather than the government. What are our next steps? This is a question that warrants a response from every Gambian.
