In order to replace the void left by the passing of Bakary Korita, the councillor for Massembeh Ward, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has called for a by-election in the Mansakonko Administrative Area.
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) announced in a press statement that it would hold a by-election in the Mansakonko Administrative Area in accordance with section 23 of the Local Government Act. This comes after Massembeh Ward Councillor Mr. Bakary Korita passed away.
The date of the by-election is set for Saturday, February 22, 2025.
The statement stated, “The Commission would like to notify the public that a Council by-election will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, to fill the vacancy in Massembeh Ward in the Mansakonko Area Council.”
The IEC also announced the by-election nomination period, which will be held at the IEC Mansakonko Regional Office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day from Wednesday, February 5 to Saturday, February 8, 2025.
The IEC Mansakonko Regional Office will begin accepting nomination applications on January 20, 2025.
“The IEC Mansakonko Regional Office will accept nominations for the aforementioned by-election from Wednesday, February 5th, until Saturday, February 8th, 2025, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., every day. Starting on January 20, 2025, nomination forms are available for pickup at the IEC Mansakonko Regional Office. According to the statement, the campaign time for the aforementioned by-election will begin on Monday, February 10 and run through Thursday, February 20, 2025.
