After an extended argument between the two, a woman from Jalanbang village in the West Coast Region is accused of killing her co-wife and disposing of the body in a well.

According to reports, the deceased, who was identified as the first wife, had a history of disagreements with the second wife. Eyewitnesses claim that a child who was there saw the crime happen. The first wife was killed when the second wife allegedly bit her during a fight and tossed her into a well.

The first local journalist to reach the site, Ousman Camara, told King FM that people rushed to the compound after seeing a nearby fire and asked where the first wife was. The second wife denied being aware of where her co-wife was. The child did, however, disclose that the first wife was in the well. The second wife allegedly denied the issue when questioned further, saying she didn’t care if the body was in the well.
“The first wife’s death was caused by the second wife. They were constantly at odds and often argued. The entire episode was witnessed by a child at home. The first wife dies after being thrown into the well by the second wife, who bites her during one of their confrontations. People came running to help when a fire started nearby. When queried about the first wife by some visitors to their compound, the second wife said she hadn’t seen her. The child who had been at home at that time disclosed that her mother was in the well. Camara told King FM that the second wife dismissed the question, saying she didn’t care if her co-wife was in the well.

The body of the 28-year-old woman was discovered in a well on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, and the Gambia Police Force subsequently announced that the Nyambai Police were looking into her strange death.

“The Crime Scene Investigators’ (CSI) initial examinations found no evidence of drag marks close to the well. Furthermore, the size of the well’s opening indicates that the victim was probably already dead or unconscious when they were dropped inside, according to the authorities.

In order to ascertain the reason and circumstances of death, the authorities have confirmed that the body has been taken to the hospital for a thorough postmortem examination. Anyone with pertinent information is being urged by the police to come forward and help with the investigation.
