The Police Intervention Unit and Anti-Crime Unit swiftly responded to reports of youths taking to the streets in Jabang, where tyres were set ablaze on the main highway, obstructing traffic and movement.
The PIU temporal guard post in Jabang established to sustain the eviction was attacked during the unrest, which stemmed from a land dispute between youths of Jabang and Sukuta. The attackers went away with mattresses, bags, and mobile phones belonging to officers. Two officers sustained minor injuries but have since been treated and discharged.
Police operations led to the dispersal of the rioters and the arrest of 36 individuals, who were taken to Old Yundum Police Station for further investigation. Two mattresses and other items allegedly stolen from the guard post were recovered, although the facility was vandalized during the attack.
The situation in Jabang is now calm and under control, and residents have resumed normal activities.
The Police assure the public that investigations are ongoing and urges all communities to resolve disputes through lawful and peaceful means.
