We are monitoring media reports that the The Gambia Police Force has arrested dozens of protesters this morning in Banjul. The protesters are organized under the auspices of Gambians Against Looted Assets (GALA) which planned to protest the way and manner the assets said to belong to former dictator Jammeh were managed and disposed of.
The issue was triggered by the investigative journalists, The Republic‘s report which exposed massive corruption, illegality, abuse of office and other malpractices.
EFSCRJ hereby strongly condemns the Police for this illegal action and demands the immediate and unconditional release of the protesters.
We demand Pres. Adama Barrow at State House of The Gambia and the Minister of Justice Dawda Jallow and the Attorney General’s Chambers & Ministry of Justice ,the Gambia demonstrate total transparency on the sale of these assets.
We will be monitoring the situation.
