For the 2025–26 trading season, which will run from December 1 through March 31, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Security has fixed the official producer price for groundnuts at 38,000 dalasis per metric ton.
The National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corporation will have the only authority to buy and export groundnuts during the first three months of the season, according to a statement issued by the ministry this week. Approved by the Cabinet on Nov. 27, the resolution prohibits private companies from purchasing or exporting the produce during that time unless the agricultural minister grants a specific license.
The restriction is to be vigorously enforced by authorities, including security services.
In statements released concurrently with the news, President Adama Barrow wished farmers luck as they get ready for the season to begin.
The government reiterated its commitment to bolstering national food security and stated that it anticipates the price and regulatory measures to ensure a smooth trading cycle.
