Mamadou Tangara, Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, has announced that the government intends to establish three new embassies in Berlin, Stockholm, and Tokyo by the end of 2025.

During an update on the status of the process at the National Assembly, he remarked: ?The fact-finding missions for the proposed embassies in Berlin, Stockholm, and Tokyo have been successfully conducted.? The reports from these missions have been compiled and approved by my Ministry, and they have been submitted to the Office of the President for further directives.

?The composition of the delegations for the missions to Berlin and Stockholm includes the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad, the Office of the President, the Ministry of Finance, and the Accountant General’s Department,? he stated.

In Tokyo, the relevant entities include the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, along with the Office of the President.

He stated that as a ministry, they would fulfil their responsibilities and strive to ensure that work is conducted diligently, with the necessary funding made available.

?Germany will be our focus: many of the challenges we encounter stem from that country, which is why it will be our priority. Additionally, considering they have established an embassy in The Gambia, it will be our priority as soon as funds are made available.?

The minister stated that the staff of the Ministry are currently engaged in the review or formulation of relevant policy documents.

?A two-prong approach has been adopted, where a smaller draughting team generates the initial content, and a larger group consisting of the senior management team, led by the permanent secretary, reviews, edits, and ultimately endorses the presented content.?

The staff from the Ministry on posting are also periodically involved in providing inputs for all the documents under development. The two teams convened regularly during working hours to fulfil their responsibilities.
