Baboucarr Joof, the minister of trade and employment, said that several companies in the Gambia have received licenses to facilitate recruitment under the Spain-Gambia migrant work agreement.
According to the agreement, Gambians are permitted to travel to Spain for work for a specified duration before returning to their home country. An analogous agreement has been established with Saudi Arabia. The authorities in Spain and Gambia are confident that this arrangement will assist in reducing illegal migration.
Minister Joof has announced that the following companies are licensed for recruitment: Help them in The Gambia, Cruise Ship Crew Gambia, Gam Jobs Limited, Tokey Recruitment Agency, Work Max Africa Limited, Outsource Recruitment Agency, and Mbye Consulting Agency.
The minister stated that the same companies have been assigned the responsibility of managing the recruitment process for Gambians who wish to travel to Saudi Arabia under a comparable bilateral labor migration agreement.
The minister stated that candidates must meet the selection criteria, which include possessing the necessary skills for recruitment, being Gambian citizens with no criminal record, holding a Gambian passport, and being confirmed in good health.
When inquired about the type of work anticipated in Spain, Minister Joof stated that they will be engaged in agricultural farm work.
The minister announced that he will be heading a team to Spain next month to evaluate the accommodation arrangements for the prospective migrant workers and other essential needs.
