    GAMBIA: Gambian Lawmaker Claims Audit Reports Released Only Under Donor Pressure

    The Gambian government only released the 2021, 2022, and 2023 National Audit Reports due to pressure from foreign budget support donors, according to Hon. Almameh Gibba, the National Assembly Member for Foni Kansala.

    Speaking on the “Verified” podcast, Hon. Gibba claimed that outside pressures were the reason behind the government’s choice rather than its own free will.

    There is pressure on the government. They don’t want to. For this government, accountability is an issue,” he said.

    He added that the government has received warnings from donor organizations that the completion and release of audit findings would be necessary for the government to continue receiving budgetary support.

    The government’s general approach to governance and change was also attacked by Hon. Gibba, who said that its activities lacked sincerity and advancement.

    There’s no sincerity in it, because if there were, this government would have made progress. What laws were altered to reflect the goals of the Gambian people when they arrived? He inquired.

    The legislator from Foni Kansala continued by claiming that jealousy, not a sincere desire for change, was the reason why former President Yahya Jammeh was removed from office.
