IEC Chairman Joseph Colley made the announcement during the launch of the 2026–2027 election calendar at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Conference Center in Bijilo.

The schedule indicates that National Assembly elections are set for April 10, 2027. Councillor elections are planned for May 22, 2027, and the elections for Mayoral and Chairperson positions will occur on June 26, 2027. The IEC announced that a supplementary voter registration exercise is scheduled from April 1 to May 14, 2026, enabling eligible citizens to update or confirm their voter information.

Mr. Colley emphasized the commission’s dedication to transparency, inclusiveness, and strict compliance with electoral laws, urging political parties and independent candidates to adhere fully to registration and campaign regulations.

The IEC, established under Section 43 of The Gambia’s Constitution, is responsible for conducting and supervising all public elections and referenda in the country. The commission emphasized that the thoughtfully established election dates are integral to its wider initiative to maintain credibility, transparency, and integrity within the nation’s democratic process.
