    EFSCRJ Solidarity Statement

The Edward Francis Small Centre for Rights and Justice stands in full solidarity with GALA in the noble and patriotic fight against Corruption in The Gambia.

Corruption is the greatest threat to justice, development, and democracy in The Gambia, robbing our nation of its resources and betraying the hopes of our people. Systemic corruption is endemic in the Government that continues to rob citizens of essential services, weakening institutions, deepening poverty, and eroding public trust thereby threatening the peace and stability of our dear homeland.

The dubious and opaque sale of Jammeh’s looted assets, valued at millions but sold without transparency, is a stark betrayal of public trust. Scandals like the Russian Oil Scandal, the mismanagement of COVID-19 funds, and illegal land allocations just to mention a few expose a culture of corruption and impunity that we can no longer tolerate.

We must rise and demand accountability because no society can thrive when public office is used for private gain. Not just today, but we must protest everyday – by speaking out, by demonstrating, by going to court and by voting out political parties and elected officials who are corrupt or who refuse to fight corruption.

Fighting corruption is not just a political issue, it is a moral and national duty. The future of our country depends on our collective courage to speak out, take action, and hold every official accountable, without fear or favour.

EF Small Centre hereby stands ready and determined to continue the fight against corruption and demand transparency and accountability in the public sector until we achieve a corrupt-free Gambia. Our lives depend on it. Today and tomorrow!

Never again will we sit by to allow fellow citizens on whom we bestow our will, power, and trust to manage our affairs and resources by law for our collective wellbeing turn around to hijack public office purposely to personalize our collective resources and heritage in broad daylight without fear or shame. We say, over our dead body! When the Gambia decided in 2016, it was a decision against autocracy and corruption. It was a decision for good governance and adherence to the rule of law.

No to corruption. Stand up for transparency and accountability. Demand justice and adherence to the rule of law. Today and forever!
