Lamin J. Darboe, a prominent human rights lawyer and former aspirant for the United Democratic Party (UDP) flag bearer, has announced his intention to run as an independent candidate in the 2026 presidential election.
During an interview with Teledal TV, Mr. Darboe provided clarity on his previous political affiliation and detailed his forthcoming plans.
“Well, just to clarify, I was never a member of the UDP executive, but going forward, yes, hopefully I will be holding a press conference within the month to announce my intention to run for president as an independent candidate,”he stated.
Darboe emphasized that although he intends to pursue an independent campaign, he is receptive to collaborating with political groups that share similar values. “Within a coalition, I certainly hope so,” he added.
Mr. Darboe has indicated that the forthcoming press conference, anticipated to occur within the month, will provide additional insights into his campaign platform, strategy, and possible political alliances as he gears up for the official launch of his presidential bid.
