Hamat NK Bah, the Minister of Local Government, Lands, and Religious Affairs, presented himself before the National Assembly’s special select committee on Tuesday to provide testimony concerning the sale and disposal of assets owned by former President Yahya Jammeh.
In his testimony, Mr. Bah, a former Tourism Minister, refuted claims of purchasing any assets belonging to Jammeh, including cattle, and maintained that he had never given anyone permission to act on his behalf in such matters.
“Never in my life, Never should I have Jammeh’s cattle even close to my cattle because he doesn’t pay Zakat,” he told the committee.
Bah highlighted his complete cooperation with the investigation and stressed the significance of transparency in the management of Jammeh’s assets for public awareness.
He further indicated that the government had permitted the committee to advance without interference. “And I think that’s one of the reasons why this committee was set up and government accepted the setting of this committee,” he said.
He stated, “We could have defeated it on the floor of the house because we have the majority and dump it in the garbage but for the greater good of this country for the issue of transparency, we felt this committee should happen and it should do the job and enlighten the Gambian people and
put the facts before the people so that everybody can go to sleep and understand what happened.”
