Former National People’s Party (NPP) member and recent defector Ousainou Bai Sankareh has formally returned to the party and apologized in public to President Adama Barrow and NPP Administrative Secretary Seedy Ceesay.

Sankareh reaffirmed his loyalty to the ruling party while speaking at an NPP women’s rally in Janjanbureh on Saturday. He said, “I have returned to my home the National People’s Party and I am here to stay.”

“There are elders here who have followed me closely since I left,” Sankareh said, expressing regret for his previous remarks and behavior. I’ve come to ask President Barrow for forgiveness. In addition, I apologize to Seedy Ceesay, whom I openly criticized.

Sankareh acknowledged the controversy but urged unity going forward, referring to recent political rumors surrounding his name. Ahead of the 2026 election, he also made a daring political pledge: “To the newcomers in the party I will work alongside you.” Anyone who thinks they are strong enough to run for office is free to do so in 2026.

Sankareh claimed that he and other disgruntled NPP members founded the National Democracy Party (NDP), a new political party that he announced in May 2025. A major political reversal is indicated by his return.
