    GAMBIA: Five Stand Accused in Grisly Case of Burning a Man Alive

    The state has charged five individuals in connection with the brutal killing of Modou Bah, who was set on fire after being doused in gasoline.

    The matter was presented to Justice A.G. Coker, accompanied by amended information outlining four counts against the defendant. The individuals facing accusations are Solomon Mendy, Zakaria Daffeh, Lamin Sowe, Saidou Jarju, and Edrisa Jawo.

    The Amended Information submitted by the State outlines four criminal offences with which they are charged:

    Count 1 Murder contrary to section 187 of the Criminal Code. The state alleged that the five caused the death of Modou Bah on December 8, 2024, at Kitty Village by tying, beating, pouring gasoline and burning him with malice aforethought.

    Count 2 Grievous Harm contrary to section 214 of the Criminal Code. The state alleged that its action caused grievous harm to Modou Bah.

    Count 3 Rash or Negligent Act Causing Death contrary to section 221A of the Criminal Code. It further alleged that the action caused the death of Modou Bah in a rash and negligent manner.

    Count 4 Conspiracy to Commit Felony contrary to section 368 of the Criminal Code. The state alleged that the five conspired amongst themselves to inflict grievous bodily harm and maliciously caused the death of Modou Bah.

    They entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.

    The state moved forward with the case to establish its argument. Senior state counsel Duanda presented the first state witness for their evidence in chief, which was subsequently followed by the cross-examination conducted by defence counsel P.H. Jammeh. The complete evidence in chief and cross-examination will take place tomorrow.

    The case has been postponed to 3rd December 2025 at 12 noon for the continuation of the trial.
