Musa Drammeh, the Water Resource Minister, has informed the Assembly that the commissioning of 55 boreholes is anticipated to be finalised.

On Wednesday, December 11, 2024, the Fisheries and Water Resource Minister stated this during a question-and-answer session with the lawmakers at the assembly.

The Fisheries Minister, Musa Drammeh, informed the assembly that the CSRWU-WASH Project, which is being implemented by the African Development Bank, will establish a solar-powered water supply system in all regions of the nation.

He stated, “At present, 22 of the 55 aluminium tanks have been installed, and the pipe laying has been completed at 46 sites.” Works are anticipated to be finalised by mid-January 2025, and the systems are scheduled to be commissioned in February 2025.

Regarding the GLF component of the boreholes, he stated that 15 sites have been identified, procurement processes, drilling, and pipe laying have been completed. However, the contractor was unable to proceed due to the rainy season. Nevertheless, the team was mobilised yesterday (Tuesday, December 10, 2024).

According to him, the tanks and pumps will be installed on December 10th and will be finished by the end of December 2024. The West Coast and LRR systems will be operational and ready for use.

Minister Drammeh stated, “The water has been tested and has been determined to be of a suitable quality for human consumption.”

Minister Drammeh attributed the constraints to the rainy season, as the road conditions were unfavourable and the procurement processes they were required to undergo, in relation to the challenges to the implementation of the GLF component.

Hon. Saikou Bah, the Member for Basse, requested that the Minister for Fisheries and Water Resources inform the Assembly of the number of water borehole projects that the Basse Constituency has received.

Minister Drammeh emphasised the communities in Basse where the Ministry has implemented water projects.

He emphasised the following communities: Kanubeh, Sabi, Sareh Pirasu, Fass Bajun, Bajun Kunda Cluster, Kumbija, Baniko Kekoro, Sabusireh, Nafugan, Nafugan Pateh, Jamol, Jawandu, and Sareh Magal Cluster.

Despite the provision of water facilities to the aforementioned communities, the Minister was asked by the Basse lawmaker why the communities are still requesting water. The Minister responded that the inadequate supply may be attributed to the increase in population in the communities. However, the system is fully operational in all of the communities in the Basse constituency.Hon. Yahya Menteng Sanyang, the Member for Latrikunda Sabiji, requested that the Minister provide the Assembly with an update on the status of his ministry’s borehole drilling projects.
