Women supporters of President Adama Barrow have launched a mobilisation drive to pay the full nomination fee for his candidacy in The Gambia’s December 5, 2026 presidential election, Gender, Children and Social Welfare Minister Fatou Kinteh has said.
Speaking at the Team First Lady Mega Rally in Jambur, Kombo South, Kinteh said the initiative is being coordinated with women mobilisers as part of growing efforts to support President Barrow’s re-election campaign.
She said women had contributed towards Barrow’s nomination fee during the 2021 presidential election, but this time they intend to raise enough money to cover the entire cost.
“Right now we are working with Maimuna Baldeh and women mobilisers to see that in this year’s election we pay the entire nomination fee for President Barrow. We are ready for it, and we will do it, and it is worth it,” Kinteh said.
The minister urged women to go beyond financial contributions and intensify grassroots mobilisation by encouraging their families, relatives and communities to vote for President Barrow in the December election.
Kinteh told supporters that backing the president would also amount to supporting the interests and advancement of Gambian women.
She praised the Barrow administration’s record, citing peace, development and social welfare programmes as some of the government’s achievements.
According to Kinteh, government social protection initiatives continue to provide assistance to vulnerable groups, including elderly people, widows, orphans and low-income families.
She said beneficiaries receive financial support and periodic visits under programmes designed to strengthen social protection and assist vulnerable households across the country.
The announcement signals an intensification of political mobilisation around President Barrow as the country moves closer to the presidential election.
With political parties stepping up preparations, fundraising and grassroots voter mobilisation are expected to play an increasingly important role in the campaign.
The effort by Barrow’s women supporters to finance his entire nomination fee also underscores the growing role of organised support groups in the governing party’s campaign machinery ahead of the December polls.
