    GAMBIA: Employer Arraigned After Alleged Hot Oil Attack on Staff

    A woman was arraigned before Magistrate A. Manneh at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court facing charges for a gruesome assault by pouring hot oil on her staff.

    The accused, Jainaba Faye, was arraigned before the court by Police Prosecutor Inspector Kebbeh, representing the Inspector General of Police. When the case was called, Prosecutor Kebbeh presented the charge sheet to the court.

    According to the statement of offence, Jainaba Faye is charged with Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm, contrary to Section 196 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025.

    The particulars of the case allege that on January 20, 2026, in Bakoteh, the accused assaulted her employee, Mam Jara Jarju, by pouring hot oil on her face. The attack resulted in a physical injuries and actual bodily harm to the victim.

    When the charge was read in open court, Jainaba Faye entered a plea of not guilty. Following the plea, Prosecutor Kebbeh requested an adjournment to allow the state to call its first witness and present evidence.

    Presiding Magistrate A. Manneh granted the prosecution’s request for an adjournment. The Magistrate granted the accused bail in the sum of D300,000 (three hundred thousand Dalasis) with three Gambian sureties.

    However, Faye was unable to fulfil the bail conditions during the court session. As a result, she was escorted by security officers to the Mile 2 Central Prison, where she will remain in custody pending the fulfilment of her bail.

    The case was adjourned to 11th February 2026.
