    GAMBIA: Election Sensitization Needs D27 Million Boost in 2026 Budget, Says FPAC

    Prior to the upcoming presidential election, the Finance and Public Accounts Committee has recommended that the National Council for Civic Education get an additional D27 million in financing for public election sensitization.

    The committee’s chairperson, Alagie S. Darboe, submitted the committee’s consolidated report on the 2026 draft budget to MPs, which includes the suggestion. The report lists a number of suggested changes to the Office of the President’s budget lines, including additional funding for organizations that promote civic awareness.

    In the report, Darboe stated, “The Committee recommends an additional allocation of D27,000,000 to NCCE’s OC.” “This funding is meant to support campaigns to raise awareness of the impending elections in December 2026.”

    In order to enhance monitoring and financial management, the committee also suggested changes to the Office of National Security’s funding and demanded a change in policy that all government rent and rate payments go via the Central Office of Revenue Administration.

    As the Assembly continues to analyze the 2026 spending plan, the paper offers a thorough assessment of spending for the Office of the President and its related agencies, noting areas of rise, reduction, and final projections.
