GAMBIA: Copg Reacts to Police Introduction of Temporary Emergency Contact Numbers Nationwide

    Share

The Coalition of Progressive Gambians (CoPG) has taken note of the announcement by the Gambia Police Force regarding the introduction of temporary emergency contact numbers nationwide.

While CoPG welcomes every initiative aimed at improving public safety, we are compelled to express our disappointment at the manner in which this announcement was made. The idea of establishing national emergency toll-free numbers was first proposed and championed by CoPG during our consultations with the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) and other stakeholders.

It is therefore regrettable that the Police proceeded with this launch without consultation, recognition, or involvement of CoPG and the wider civic stakeholders who initiated the process. We believe this undermines the spirit of transparency and inclusivity required in such an important national safety reform.

CoPG calls on the Gambia Police Force and the network providers to urgently engage all stakeholders to ensure this initiative is implemented effectively, transparently, and in a way that serves the best interest of the Gambian people.

CoPG remains committed to its mission of fighting corruption, promoting justice, and safeguarding the welfare of ordinary citizens.
