GAMBIA: Coalition Task Force Concludes Third Strategic Session, Advances Key Governance Frameworks

The Coalition Task Force comprising ADD, APP SOBEYA, CCC, APRC No To Alliance, GPAP, PAP, UDP, UMC, NDP, GMP, Wareef, PASTEF Gambia, PRP, GDC and GFA, and civil society organizations (CSOs) has successfully concluded its Third Strategic Session, marking another significant step toward building a united and credible opposition front ahead of the forthcoming electoral cycle.

The session focused on consolidating foundational frameworks necessary for effective collaboration, transparency, and electoral preparedness. Participants engaged in constructive deliberations and reached important milestones on several key action points:

Key Outcomes of the Meeting:

Final Review of the Code of Conduct:

The Task Force undertook a comprehensive review of the proposed Code of Conduct, including the incorporation of clear enforcement and penalty clauses. The adoption of this Code will ensure discipline, mutual respect, and accountability among all coalition members.

Development of a Common Agenda Framework:

The General Assembly agreed for further follow-ups by the Coalition mediation Committee with other coalition groups to bring them on board to avoid further fragmentation.

Members initiated the drafting of a shared policy and governance agenda aimed at aligning the coalition’s vision and priorities. This framework will serve as the foundation for a unified campaign platform.

Legal Review of Voter Registration Irregularities:

The Task Force received updates on the ongoing legal assessment of reported voter registration irregularities. This effort underscores the coalition’s commitment to safeguarding electoral integrity and advocating for a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.

Circulation of CTMC Timetable:

A proposed timetable for the Coalition Transitional Mechanism Committee (CTMC), covering the period from May to September 2026, will be circulated to all stakeholders to guide the implementation of agreed activities.

The third session of the General Assembly Meeting of opposition parties, movements and CSOs was hosted by the United Democratic Party (UDP) at Boabab Holiday Resort.

Next Steps:
The Task Force announced that the Fourth Strategic Session is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 9th May 2026. The meeting will be hosted by the APP Sobeyaa Political Party, with the specific venue to be communicated in due course.
