According to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Gambia’s Independence Stadium in Bakau has received official approval from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to hold international football matches.
The stadium, which is the biggest football stadium in the Gambia, was previously prohibited by CAF from hosting international events, including important qualifications, since it did not meet the necessary criteria.
But now that the prohibition has been lifted, international action will once more fill the stadium. Top-tier football will return to Bakau on November 15, 2024, with the eagerly awaited Gambia vs. Comoros AFCON 2025 qualifier.
In their statement, the Ministry of Youth and Sports conveyed enthusiasm for the forthcoming game:
“The AFCON 2025 qualifier between Gambia and Comoros will take place at Bakau. The wait is ended! This is the moment that all football fans have been anticipating. The high-stakes AFCON 2025 qualifier between Gambia and Comoros is sure to be an exciting matchup. When the Scorpions hit the field on November 15, 2024, the legendary Independence Stadium—Gabia’s stronghold for international conflicts—will come alive. With hundreds of fervent supporters chanting for a Gambia triumph, the atmosphere will be electrifying under the brilliant stadium lights. More than just three points are at stake with a victory here; it’s a step closer to AFCON 2025 and an opportunity to create history at home. The Scorpions are prepared to attack with everything on the line, the ministry of youth and sports declared.
The game, which might move Gambia one step closer to qualifying for AFCON 2025, is highly anticipated by football enthusiasts nationwide.
